You have an excellent web site! Lots of great information and devoted to Sharpshooters, who could ask for more? I do living history and belong to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, so I was delighted to see several names that may be related to me. Plus all that great data on the 2nd. Btn. GA Sharpshooters was fantastic. I plan to contact the CO. soon. Respectfully, Ord. Sgt. Kenneth J. Thrift, Flat Top Copperheads, Princeton, WV.
Pvt. Soloman Newsom Ivey, CSA, 2nd Batt. GA Sharpshooters, Co. B
I am a descendant of Pvt. Soloman N. Ivey, who served in the 2nd GA Sharpshooters. He was my 4th great uncle. On behalf of my family, thank you for keeping the memory of these men and their sacrifices alive for future generations. Solomon’s brothers also served, Sgt. Benjamin A. Ivey, and Pvt. James M. Ivey. Solomon is buried in Carnegie, Randolph Co., GA at Mt. Hebron Bapt. Church Cem. His brother Benjamin(my 3rd great grandfather) is buried near there with their parents, Wike and Sarah and James is buried at Rock Island Confederate Cemetery in Illinois, where he was a POW and never made it home. Another brother, Seaborn Ivey also served and was captured and galvanized into Union service and is also buried at Mt. Hebron. I am in Florida so perhaps I will get the opportunity to personally thank you at a future re-enactment event.
Brother in Arms
Great to see and I am Honored to have my pictures in a photo album from Tunnel Hill 2011 posted. It was great to fall in line with the 2nd GA Sharpshooters CSA, looking forward to many more! AGAPE.
58th Alabama
I am looking for any information on Co E. that was added to the 9th Alabama Battalion to form the 58th Alabama. I am currently doing research for a possible book on that regiment. Thanks. Clint
All Is Well
Just hoping for all of ya’ll to have a great season. Miss all of ya’ll. Really wish I could be out there. Just ask for many prayers to help me when I leave and get me through tuff struggles ahead of me. I will return to the field as soon as I am able to. Take care.
Love your website
3rd Sergeant Turner T. Roan is my great great grandfather. He was born in Appalachicola, Fl in 1811 and, after the war, moved to Manatee county FL. I have a copy of the warrant for his arrest for “assault with intent to murder” which was issued in 1881. According to the warrant, he had a previous warrant for his arrest. He fled to Ft. Meyers where he died in 1907. This website is awesome! Thank you for keeping the memory of these brave men alive.
